The wind has blown from 15 - 35 knots everyday for about 3 weeks and I am sick of it. I had to cancel 3 charters last week. My friend, Cole Clarkson, also a guest on a couple of episodes of KT Diaries jumped this tarpon a couple of weeks ago in the Keys. Cole can fish. He is also possessed with tarpon, almost as much as I am. He says this was the best, most visible eat he had ever seen. The tarpon was laid up in an aqua depression on the flat. Took Sarah and Walter out on Sunday afternoon after the weather cleared. Beautiful day with some good folks. These people know how to enjoy a fishing day. Had the opportunity to guide Cliff and Jerry Mistretta in Port Aransas last week. I was able to scout and fish a couple of days before their arrival. I've been back to the coast for a couple of weeks. I was able to scout the water for a couple of days before I started my guide trips. I got totally lucky and found the fish immediately. I stayed in a school of over 3oo redfish for a couple of hours and caught 15 or so on my little olive shrimp/crab imitation. This fly is deadly. I'll post a photo of the next ones I tie. What a day. Kevin sent me upriver to scout some new water. I don't think that I am supposed to tell you about this, but I'll risk it. Caught around 15 smallmouth and 5 or 6 largemouth on an orange and root beer crawfish pattern I tied. At least half of these I was able to sight-fish for. Not many places that you can sight-fish bass in moving water. The place is a secret, but I'll include more

Poco is doing great, showing lots of promise. She is pointing a quail wing here. Mom, Rosie with Poco, sleeping at the lodge. Rosie has completely recovered from the puppies. I was in Nebraska for a week and ran the dogs everyday. We have an unbelievable amount of pheasants left after a great season. All the dogs did great.

I have been in Nebraska for the last week training my new pup, Poco, and closing down my hunting operation. Had a great season. We had fifteen hunters on the last weekend of the season and limited with 45 birds on the last day. A surprising amount of these were shot off of points which is pretty rare for late season birds. Fished the Guadalupe last week with my friend Kevin Stubbs with Expedition Outfitters. Stellar day. Not a cloud in the sky, mid 70's and the trout were hungry. They were keyed on the trico hatch. I was given a fully trained 5 year old English Setter, Rosie, by a field trialer in Montana, Shannon Nygard. An upcoming episode is about our first hunt together. Rio my male and Rosie bred successfully on the opening day of pheasant season. Rosie delivered 5 healthy pups. They are all living with their new owners except the one I kept. Her name is Poco. They were all pointing at 5 weeks old.

Quail hunting off of my friend Bert Jones Tennessee Walkers with our setters and pointers working ahead. 45,000 acres of the best quail habitat I've ever seen. Pointed 11 coveys in 4 hours. Shot a few birds. The most enjoyable quail hunt of my life. I can assure you Bert hasn't lost a step since his days in the NFL.
