Fish with the Host of the Texas-Based Fly-Fishing Television Series, The KT Diaries.
Looking for a unique fishing experience? Join television personality and real-life outdoor guide, Kevin “KT” Townsend, on a personalized fly-fishing adventure. In 2007, Captain KT relocated from the Green River in Utah and the Rocky Mountains back to his native state and is now based on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Depart from the Texas Gulf City of Port O’Connor
KT is now booking fly-fishing or light tackle trips out of Port O’Connor, Texas. The shallows of the Matagorda, Espiritu Santo, and San Antonio bay systems provide year round world-class sight-fishing opportunities for redfish and the occasional trout. The redfish populations have never been higher.
From Mackerel to the Silver King
As the water temperature rises in the Spring, migratory blue water species such as the King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Tuna, Jack Crevalle, and the Silver King of the ocean, the Tarpon, begin to make their way into the in-shore waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Hooking a Tarpon
Tarpon numbers are on the rise in Texas, and Port O' Connor is known for producing trophy tarpon in shallow water. KT has seen over 300 tarpon jumped in the last four years. These fish generally range from 50 to 180 pounds. When the conditions are right you can spot hundreds of tarpon in a single day. Though most of the tarpon jumped out of KT's boat have been on the fly rod, spinning and baitcasting tackle works just as well. The choice is yours. The patient and determined angler can be rewarded with the angling experience of a lifetime. The sight of a blinding Silver King leaping, greyhounding or tailwalking its way to Mexico is a sight not soon forgotten.
